Dentici Wholesale Produce – Now Open to the Public – Has Moved to a NEW Location

Started by brothers Joseph, Anthony & Michael Dentici in 1909, and located in Kittanning, Dentici Wholesale Produce has JUST moved to a new location at 352 State Route 66, Kittanning, PA 16201; otherwise known to locals as “Kiddieland.”

The Dentici brothers came to a boarding house in Jeanette from the Old Country. After visiting surrounding rural areas they decided that they liked being in the country and moved to Manor Township. Dentici Produce was built on taking trains to the strip district of Pittsburgh and bringing produce back to Kittanning by train.

There was no cooler back then; it didn’t come until after WWII. The produce was placed in the depression of a big brick floor then covered with sackcloth. Ice was then chopped up and placed over the sackcloth to keep the produce cool. Dentici Produce is the oldest family-owned business in the area, starting operations (unofficially) in 1907.

Dentici has been providing quality produce to area bars, restaurants, and chefs for over 100 years and are now opening their doors to the public. Deo Beck, purchaser, buys from local farmers and travels to the strip district twice a week. Deo hand picks everything. “That’s what sets us apart from food service companies. Every tomato, every potato, every carrot . . .  I look at everything. Each item is checked before sold. Everything I sell is 100% quality.” He says with confidence, “You will not get bad produce from here. We have the freshest produce in town. With competitive prices . . . .  No order is too big or small.”

Dentici also boasts the nicest, widest range of potatoes in Armstrong County: Red, white, count, #2, utility, baking potatoes. They have tomatoes from extra-large, the 6 x 6 tomatoes, down to small.

You name it, they sell it! Leaf lettuce, head lettuce, broccoli, onions, carrots, cucumbers, cabbage, mushrooms, limes, strawberries, bananas, grapes and more!

They currently have pumpkins, from $8 – $12, for your holiday carving and baking needs, as well as warted pumpkins for $4. Mini pumpkins were to come in the day I was there.

Deo is excited to start growing microgreens and fresh herbs soon. Microgreens, also known as “vegetable confetti”, or “spring mix” lettuce that is sold in stores, can be grown and harvested in less than a month. What fresh herbs will he grow, you’ll have to stop in and see!

So, if you are searching for great customer service and quality produce – consider your search to be over! Call or stop by Dentici Wholesale Produce on Route 66, across from Twin Pines Tavern. You’ll be happy that you did!
